New here?

Studio Yeonhong runs bots for Discord. Yeonhong reads your chat aloud, and Yeonhee plays music. This page explains what the two bots do, how to bring a bot into your server, and how to find commands.

If a bot is already in your server, you can jump straight to the Where to go table at the bottom.

Yeonhong — the bot that reads your chat aloud

Yeonhong joins your voice channel and reads what you write in chat out loud. You can talk with the people in the voice channel without turning on your mic. Each person can set their own voice, the nickname the bot reads, and how fast it speaks.

Yeonhong doesn't work alone. Several bots, such as Yeonhong and Yeonha, work together, so you can use them in several voice channels at once. Yeonhong takes all the commands, and whichever bot is free at the time does the reading. See Several bots, one team for details.

Here's the quickest way to use it.

text
/join
  1. Join a voice channel first.
  2. In the text channel you want read aloud, run /join.
  3. A free bot joins your voice channel. It might be Yeonhong, or another bot such as Yeonha.
  4. Write anything in that text channel and it's read right away.
  5. When you're done, send the bot out with /leave.

The bot reads only the one text channel where you ran /join. See Using Yeonhong for details.

You can use bots such as Yeonhong and Yeonha without a membership. A membership widens the voices you can choose from, and with a server membership, everyone in that server can use Plus voices on every bot. → What membership unlocks

NOTE

If you've been using Yeonhong for a while, please read the 4.0.0 update notes first. The /server … and /membership … commands are gone, and you now change server settings in the dashboard.

Yeonhee — the bot that plays music

Yeonhee is a bot that plays music in voice channels. Give it a song title or link and it adds the song to the queue, then plays the queue in order. It accepts YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud links.

When playback starts, a controller card appears in the channel. From then on you don't need to type commands again. Just use the buttons, or control it from the web dashboard.

text
/재생 검색어: 아이유 밤편지

(This plays the song "밤편지" by IU. /재생 means play, and 검색어 means search term.)

  1. Join a voice channel first.
  2. In any text channel, run /재생 (play) and enter a song title or link.
  3. The bot joins and starts playing, and posts a controller card in that channel.

See Get started with Yeonhee for details.

NOTE

Yeonhong and Yeonhee are separate bots. Inviting one doesn't bring the other along, and they don't share settings such as voice or volume. Their memberships are separate too. Yeonha is a bot that reads chat together with Yeonhong. It's a different bot from Yeonhee, the music bot.

Bringing a bot into your server

To add a bot to a server, you need the Manage Server permission in that server. If you don't have it, ask the server owner.

  1. In a server where the bot is already present, click the bot's name to open its profile. If you got an invite link, opening that link works the same way.
  2. Click Add App (or Add to Server). The button name differs a little depending on your Discord version.
  3. Choose the server to add the bot to, leave the permission list on screen as it is, and authorize.

WARNING

If you uncheck a permission on the authorization screen, the feature that needs it just stops working, with no message. If you remove the voice permissions, the bot can't join voice channels. If you remove the slash command permission, no commands appear when you type /. Leave the checks as they are and authorize. If you've already invited the bot, turn the permissions back on for the bot's role in your Discord server settings.

TIP

Right after you invite a bot, its commands may not show up when you type /. New commands can take up to an hour to reach everyone on Discord. Quitting Discord completely and opening it again usually makes them appear right away.

After you invite Yeonhong

When you invite Yeonhong for the first time, it first asks for this server's main language. The main language is used for bot names and for the bot messages posted in channels.

  1. Yeonhong posts a message with [한국어] [English] [日本語] buttons in the server's system channel (or, if there isn't one, the topmost text channel it can write in).
  2. Someone who can use /setup picks a language (admins by default — the server owner, or someone with Discord's Administrator permission). If anyone else clicks, only they see a message saying they don't have permission.
  3. Once a language is picked, the names and messages of our bots in this server switch to that language. If you pick English, the post changes to The main language is now English. Finish the rest of the setup with /setup.
  4. Run /setup to choose the basic settings, such as which chat to read, how the bot joins, voice and permissions, one step at a time. You can also do the same setup in the dashboard's [Setup assistant].

About a minute after you invite it, Yeonhong sends the server owner one DM on how to get started. Servers that already had Yeonhong don't get the language question or this DM.

See Just invited the bot? for the full steps. If you want to bring in more bots such as Yeonha, see how to invite them in Several bots, one team.

For Yeonhee, start with Music permissions.

Finding commands

Type / in the chat box and a list of commands you can use appears. Pick a bot's icon in the list on the left to see only that bot's commands. You can also find a command by typing the name written in these docs.

  • All of Yeonhong's commands are on Yeonhong. Other bots such as Yeonha have no commands.
  • A command with a space, like /user settings, is a subcommand inside /user. Type just /user and the rest appear as suggestions.
  • Something with a colon, like 검색어:, is an input field you fill in after picking the command. You don't need to type it yourself.
  • In channels the bot can't see, its commands don't appear in the list at all. Try another channel.
  • Many command replies are visible only to you. It's normal for nothing to stay in the channel after you run one.

If you want to go through the commands one by one, see All Yeonhong commands and All Yeonhee slash commands.
