My settings
This is where you decide what name and voice your messages are read with, and how high and how fast they're read. You can change them in two places.
- The 'User settings' screen on the dashboard
/user settingsin Discord
Both places show the same values. If you change something in one, it shows up the same way in the other.
What to change where
| What you want to do | Dashboard | Discord /user settings |
|---|---|---|
| Set or reset your nickname | 'User settings' › 'My nickname' | [Set Nickname] · [Reset Nickname] |
| Pick a voice | 'Voices' screen | Pressing [Change Voice] opens the dashboard's 'Voices' screen |
| Pitch and speed | 'User settings' › 'Reading style' | [Pitch] · [Speed] |
| Natural voice | 'User settings' › 'Reading style' | [Turn on] · [Turn off] |
| Reset voice, pitch and speed | [Reset to defaults] | Not available |
| Custom voices | 'Membership' screen | Not available |
| Translation language | 'User settings' › 'Translation' | Not available |
Picking a voice has moved to the dashboard. You can preview each voice and choose while looking at its tier and credit labels → Choosing a voice
Custom voices are covered separately in Custom voices.
Settings are separate for each server
Your settings are saved once per server.
- Changing your voice on server A doesn't change server B.
- On a new server, your settings for that server start from the defaults.
- If you leave a server and join again, your old settings are still there.
Within one server, several bots such as Yeonhong and Yeonha use the same settings. Whichever bot joins and reads, your voice, pitch, speed and nickname are the same.
Custom voices and your translation language are tied to your account instead of a server. If you turn on a custom voice, it's used on every server, and your translation language is also used on every server.
If you want to set something on several servers at once, use 'Apply to All Servers'. Each section below explains how far the change goes.
The dashboard's 'User settings' screen
Log in to the dashboard with your Discord account, pick a server, then press 'User settings' in the sidebar. On a phone, 'User settings' is in the tab bar at the bottom.
The name of the server you picked appears under the screen title. Everything you change here is your setting for that server.
My nickname
This is the name the bot calls you. If you leave it empty, the bot uses your Discord name.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| [Save for this server] | Saves the nickname you entered for this server only |
| [Apply to All Servers] | Puts the same nickname on every server where you've set your settings before |
| [Reset] | Clears your nickname and goes back to your Discord name |
Nicknames can be up to 10 characters, on the dashboard and in Discord /user settings alike.
My voice
You'll see three lines, Korean, English and Japanese, each showing the name of the voice you use now. To change one, press [Change]. You'll go to the 'Voices' screen.
You pick a voice for each language because the bot works out the language of each message on its own. A message with Hangul is read with your Korean voice, and a message with only English is read with your English voice. The order the bot uses to decide the language is in How the bot reads.
Reading style
| Item | Range | Default | How to change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pitch | -4.0 to 4.0 | 0.0 | [−] · [+] by 0.1, or [Default] to reset in one go |
| Speed | 0.5 to 2.0 | 1.0 | [−] · [+] by 0.1, or [Default] to reset in one go |
| Natural voice | On · Off | Off | Switch |
Values you change here aren't saved right away. Apply them with the buttons at the top right of the screen.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| [Apply] | Saves to this server. The number next to it is how many items you changed |
| [Apply to All Servers] | Puts the same values on every server where you've set your settings before |
Once you apply, the next message is read with the new values.
TIP
The closer a value is to either end, the harder it is to understand. A pitch of about -1.0 to 1.0 and a speed of about 0.9 to 1.3 work well.
Reset to defaults
When you press [Reset to defaults] at the very bottom of the screen, you're asked once more. If you confirm, your voice, speed and pitch on this server go back to the bot's defaults. Your nickname and natural voice stay as they are.
If you've never changed your settings on this server, the button can't be pressed.
Translation language
It's in the 'Translation' section at the very bottom of the screen. When you right-click a message and choose Apps → 'Translate', the message is translated into this language and shown only to you. → Translate
| What you can choose | Language it translates into |
|---|---|
| My Discord language (default) | The language you use in Discord |
| 한국어 · English · 日本語 | The language you chose |
- When you choose one, it's saved right away without [Apply], and "Changed your translation language" appears.
- There's one per person, not per server. It's used on every server.
- You can change this field even when the server has turned on Lock voice and you can't change other values.
- Pressing [Reset to defaults] doesn't change your translation language.
- Pressing [Change translation language] on a 'Translate' result opens this field directly.
Discord /user settings
When you use /user settings, the 'User TTS Settings' screen appears. Only you can see it, and no one else can press its buttons.
The screen shows your nickname, your voices for the three languages, pitch, speed and natural voice, in that order. If you haven't set a nickname, it shows 'Discord name'.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| [Set Nickname] | Enter a new nickname of up to 10 characters |
| [Reset Nickname] | Clears your nickname and goes back to your Discord name |
| [Change Voice] | Opens the dashboard's 'Voices' screen |
| [Pitch] | [Lower] · [Higher] by 0.1, or [Enter Value] to type a number |
| [Speed] | [Slower] · [Faster] by 0.1, or [Enter Value] to type a number |
| [Turn on] · [Turn off] | Turns natural voice on and off |
In Discord, every button press is saved right away. [Go back] on the pitch and speed screens takes you back to the first screen.
[Enter Value] only accepts numbers, and saves up to one decimal place. If the number is out of range, you're told something like 'Must be between -4.0 and 4.0.'
When you turn natural voice on or off, 'Sync Settings' appears at the top of the screen.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| [Apply to All Servers] | Puts the same value on every server where you have settings |
| [This Server Only] | Keeps it on this server only and closes the question |
If you don't press anything for 2 minutes, it changes to 'Closed because the time ran out'. If that happens, use /user settings again.
Where your nickname is used
| Where | What's read | When |
|---|---|---|
| When someone mentions you | ○○님을 언급했어요. ("mentioned ○○") | When you're in the same voice channel as the bot |
| When you forward a message | ○○님이 메시지를 전달했어요. ("○○ forwarded a message") | When the server has 'Forward notice' on |
| When you reply to someone's message | ○○님이 △△님에게 답장을 보냈어요. ("○○ replied to △△") | When the server has 'Reply notice' on |
| When you join or leave a voice channel | ○○ has joined! · ○○ has left. | When the server has 'Join alert' · 'Leave alert' on |
| When you turn screen sharing or your camera on or off | ○○ started sharing their screen, and so on | When the server has 'Screen share notices' · 'Camera notices' on |
| When the writer changes | ○○, (your message) | When the server has 'Read the writer's name' on |
Except for mentions, these are all server settings. You can see which settings exist on the Reading tab and the Join & alerts tab.
NOTE
If you enter 기본값 ("default") as your nickname in Discord, it's treated as not having set a nickname. In that case, the bot calls you by your Discord name.
Natural voice
When it's on, messages with several exclamation or question marks are read with more feeling.
It only works with voices labeled 'Natural voice'. These are the voices with a 'Natural voice' label on their card on the dashboard's 'Voices' screen.
In Discord /user settings, if the voice you have now can't use this feature, it shows 'Not available with your current voice' and the buttons can't be pressed. Switch to a voice that supports it and you can turn it on.
When server settings come before your settings
Two settings that a server admin turns on are used before your own settings.
| Server setting | Your settings that aren't used | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Lock voice | Voice · pitch · speed · natural voice · custom voice | Dashboard: a notice appears at the top and you can't change the values · Discord: a 'Force Voice' notice appears and [Change Voice] is gray |
| Lock nicknames | Nickname (you're called by your Discord name) | Dashboard: a notice appears under 'My nickname' and the input is locked · Discord: no separate notice |
Your settings aren't deleted. When the admin turns the lock off, your settings are used again.
WARNING
Discord /user settings doesn't show the nickname lock. If you saved a nickname but are still called by your Discord name, ask an admin whether the server has turned on 'Lock nicknames'. You can check right away on the dashboard's 'User settings' screen.
On a server with 'Lock voice' on, your custom voice isn't used.
If you're a server admin, you can change 'Lock voice' on the Voices tab and 'Lock nicknames' on the Reading tab.
Troubleshooting
| What's happening | Why | What to try |
|---|---|---|
