A tour of the dashboard's server settings
All server settings are changed on the 'Server settings' screen of the web dashboard. All our bots, such as Yeonhong and Yeonha, share the settings you change here.
What you used to do with the old /server settings is now done on the dashboard.
How to open it
From Discord Type /settings and the [Server settings] and [My settings] buttons appear. Press [Server settings] to open that server's settings screen directly.
From the dashboard Click 'Operations' › 'Server settings' in the left menu. If you haven't picked a server yet, pick one first.
If you aren't logged in, you go through Discord login and then come back to the screen you clicked. If your Discord login has expired when you come in, you see "Log in again and you'll come right back here." and [Log in again].
Who can open it
At first, only admins can change server settings. On the Permissions tab, you can open 'Dashboard server settings' to managers as well.
- People who can't change them see "You can't view this server's settings" and a [Go change my voice] button. You can change your own voice without any permission.
- When you can only view, 'View only' is shown at the top of the screen and the switches can't be pressed.
- If the bot isn't in the server, you see "Yeonhong isn't in this server" and [Invite].
Seven tabs
| Tab | What's in it |
|---|---|
| Reading | What to read, when many people write, reading rules, whose messages to read (channels to read per bot), bot messages, read messages |
| Join & alerts | Auto-join, voice channels to join, voice channels per bot, leave when quiet, alerts like join and leave |
| Voices | Lock voice, server default voice, speed and pitch, bot volume |
| Language | Main language, translate when reading, language by channel |
| Words & sounds | Abbreviation reading, Reduce spam, Word Replacement, Soundboard |
| Permissions | Admins, managers and users (separating guests), the level needed for each command |
| Bots | Our bots, permission check, voice server of the reading bot, reading issues |
The tab you pick is kept in the address. Even if you refresh or go back, the same tab opens.
Changing and applying
Each kind of setting is saved at a different time.
| Kind | When it's saved |
|---|---|
| Switches and values (on/off, numbers, choices), Permissions tab, language by channel | All together when you press [Apply] |
| Lists (channels, per-bot channels, roles, people, bots, Word Replacement, sounds) | As soon as you add or remove an item |
| Server default voice | As soon as you pick one in the Choose a voice window |
Apply and Revert
When you change a switch or value, it isn't saved right away. Only the count of changes goes up.
- A count appears next to the name of each tab with changes. Your changes stay even when you switch tabs.
- At the bottom of the screen, "3 settings not applied yet" with [Revert] and [Apply] follows you around.
- Press [Apply] to save all your changes at once. You're told "Applied 3".
- Press [Revert] to discard all changes that haven't been applied.
- If you set something you changed back to its original value, it drops out of the count.
Applied settings take effect from the next message. You don't need to restart or re-invite the bot. On the rare occasion that the bot picks up the change late, you're also told "It may take up to an hour to reach the bot."
WARNING
If you close or refresh the window while there are unapplied changes, your browser asks you once. If you leave anyway, your changes aren't saved.
Values that need a switch on
Some values only take effect when another switch is on. For example, 'Spam threshold' only works when 'Reduce spam' is on. If that switch is off, the value looks faded and you're told something like "Turn on 'Reduce spam' to use this".
Finding a setting
Type what you're looking for in the search box at the top of the left menu. Results 'Within server settings' appear below the menu as well.
- Each result shows which tab and group it's in, like
Server settings › Reading › What to read. - Click it to open that tab, jump to that row and highlight it briefly.
- You can find settings by their name, their description and their old name. For example, searching 'Read Outside Users' or 'Auto-Join' brings up the setting under its current name.
- Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) to jump straight to the search box.
Straight from a Discord command
Dashboard buttons on Discord commands open the right tab and row directly. The screen opens in the Discord language of the person who pressed the button.
| Command and button | Where it opens |
|---|---|
/settings [Server settings] | That server's server settings |
/settings [My settings] | That server's user settings |
/setup Voice step [More on the dashboard] | The Server default voice row on the Voices tab |
/setup Permissions step [Set per command in the dashboard] | Permissions tab |
/setup last step [Open dashboard] | Server settings |
/bots and /voice-server [Open in dashboard] | Bots tab |
[Open auto-join settings] in the auto-join notice after /leave | The 'Auto-join' row on the Join & alerts tab |
The [Open in dashboard] button on /bots and /voice-server is shown only to people who can open server settings.
Copying from another server
This copies settings from another server you manage to this server. Press [Copy from another server] at the top of the server settings screen.
- Pick a server under 'Server to import from'. Only servers where you can change settings and the bot is present are listed.
- Under 'Which settings do you want to copy?', pick what to copy.
- Press [Copy] to apply them right away. You're told "Copied the settings".
| What you can pick | What's copied |
|---|---|
| Server settings | On/off switches, values (spam threshold, message prefix, message length limit, leave when quiet, delete after, translation), server default voice, speed, pitch, volume, and main language |
| Soundboard | The sound list |
| Word Replacement | The reading rules used only in this server |
| Bots to read · People not to read | Both lists |
| Command levels | 'Level needed for each command' on the Permissions tab |
Soundboard, Word Replacement, and Bots to read · People not to read are added to what this server already has. Items with the same name or text are replaced. Only admins can copy command levels.
Channels and roles differ from server to server, so they aren't copied. Channels to read, voice channels to join, per-bot channels, roles to read, languages picked for each channel, and the people and roles added on the Permissions tab stay as they are in this server.
NOTE
Copying saves right away without going through [Apply]. After copying, the screen reloads to show the changed values.
Change log
Under 'Operations' › 'Change log' in the left menu, you can see when this server's settings changed, what changed and who changed it.
- The columns are Time, Item, Before, After and Changed by.
- Items use the same names as on the settings screen, and switches show as On or Off.
- When several values change at once, as with permissions, it shows as 'Multiple items'. Hover over it to see the original values.
- Changes made on the dashboard are recorded. Changes made in Discord aren't recorded yet.
Only people who can change that server's settings can see its change log.
On a phone
On a narrow screen like a phone, the layout changes like this:
- The top bar has [Menu] and the name of the server you're viewing. Tap the server name to switch to another server.
- The bottom tab bar has Overview, Voices, User settings, Server settings and Membership. Change log, Voice servers and Help are in [Menu].
- The settings tabs sit in one row, and you swipe sideways to move through them. The tab you picked is kept in view.
- [Apply] and [Revert] appear just above the bottom tab bar when you have changes.
- Windows like the Setup assistant and Copy from another server slide up from the bottom of the screen.
- The change log shows each row as a card.
