If you just invited the bot
Yeonhong can start reading right after you invite it, without changing anything. Follow the steps below to fit it to your server in a few minutes.
1. Pick a main language
When you invite Yeonhong for the first time, it posts one message in a text channel asking you to "Choose the main language of this server." It posts in the server's system messages channel. If there isn't one, it posts in the top text channel Yeonhong can write in.
- It only asks in servers Yeonhong has just joined. It isn't posted in servers that already had Yeonhong.
- The question is shown in three languages at once: 한국어, English and 日本語.
- The language button that best matches your Discord server's default language and the server name comes first.
- Only people who can use
/setupcan press the buttons. At first, that's admins. You can see who the admins are on the Permissions tab. - The buttons still work even after the bot restarts.
Once you pick a language, the message changes to "The main language is now English. Finish the rest of the setup with /setup." and these things change:
- The names of all our bots in this server, such as Yeonhong and Yeonha, change to that language. If you pick English, the English app name is shown as is.
- Bot messages posted for everyone in a channel appear in that language. Replies only you can see appear in each person's Discord language.
If a bot doesn't have the 'Change Nickname' permission, you're told which bots couldn't be renamed. Give that bot the permission in your Discord server settings, then pick the language again.
NOTE
If you invite Yeonhong again to a server that already had a main language set, it uses that language without asking. To change it later, use 'Main language' on the dashboard's Language tab. That's also where you set a different language for each channel.
The server owner gets a welcome DM
When you invite Yeonhong for the first time, Yeonhong sends the server owner a DM a minute later. It goes to the owner of that server, not to the person who invited the bot.
| What's in it | Details |
|---|---|
| Getting started | Basic setup with /setup, calling a bot with /join, adding more bots with /bots |
| Change settings on the dashboard | A note that you can change server settings, your own voice and membership on the dashboard |
| Membership | A note that the bots work without a membership, and that with a server membership, everyone in this server can use Plus voices on every bot |
| Buttons | [Open dashboard] · [Read the guide] · [Join official server] · [See membership] |
- If a main language was picked within that minute, the DM is sent in that language. If not, the bot guesses the language from the server's Discord language and the server name.
- Press [한국어], [English] or [日本語] at the bottom to switch the same message to that language.
- It's sent only once to each server owner. It isn't sent again if Yeonhong is added to another server, or invited to the same server again.
- It isn't sent to servers that already had Yeonhong.
- If the server owner has blocked DMs from server members, it can't be sent, and it isn't sent again later.
2. Finish the first setup
Once you pick a main language, Yeonhong says "Finish the rest of the setup with /setup." You can go through the same eight steps in Discord or on the dashboard, whichever you prefer.
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| Discord | Type /setup. Each step is saved when you press [Next] |
| Dashboard | Press [Setup assistant] at the top of the server settings screen. At the end, you check what will change and save it all at once |
The eight steps are Main language → Text channels → How the bot joins → Reading options → Voice → Permissions → Bots → Finish. The details are in /setup and the Setup assistant.
3. Call a bot and listen
- Join a voice channel.
- Type
/joinin a text channel. - An idle bot joins and posts a message. Then write anything in that channel.
Messages that start with // are never read, on purpose. The commands for calling and removing bots are in Voice channel commands.
4. If you want to fine-tune more
Every other setting is changed under 'Server settings' on the web dashboard. In Discord, type /settings and press [Server settings] to open this server's settings screen directly.
What you used to do with the old /server settings is now done on the dashboard.
| What you want to do | Tab |
|---|---|
| Channels, people and roles to read, attachment and reply notices, message length limit | Reading |
| Auto-join, voice channels to join, join and leave alerts | Join & alerts |
| Server default voice, Lock voice, volume | Voices |
| Main language, Translate when reading, language by channel | Language |
| Abbreviation reading, Reduce spam, Word Replacement, Soundboard | Words & sounds |
| Who can use which commands | Permissions |
| Which bot reads where, missing permissions, why messages weren't read | Bots |
For a tour of the whole screen, see A tour of the dashboard's server settings.
TIP
Even if you remove the bot and invite it again, your settings don't reset. Your previous settings stay as they were.
