Using the player controller buttons
When you play your first song, a playback card appears in the text channel where you used the command. This is called the controller. When the song changes, it doesn't create a new message. It just swaps out the content of the same card, so the channel doesn't get flooded with playback notices. This page explains what's on the card, the six buttons, and why a button might not respond.
What's on the card
| Position | Content |
|---|---|
| Top line | 지금 재생 중 (now playing) or 일시정지 (paused) |
| Title | The current song's title, with the artist in small text underneath |
| Right side | Album art (only when there is some) |
| Up next | The first song in the queue. If there isn't one, 대기열에 다음 곡이 없어요 ("There's no next song in the queue") |
| Playback time | elapsed / total and a 12-segment progress bar |
| Volume | The current volume percentage |
| Requested by | The person who added this song |
For items whose length is unknown, such as live streams, 라이브 (live) appears where the total time would be. In that case the progress bar appears as a single line, ━━━━━━━━━━━━, with no dot marking the position. Even if the bar looks full, it doesn't mean the song is almost over. It means "there's no position to show."
The progress bar keeps updating during playback, but it only redraws every few seconds. It's normal for it not to line up exactly to the second.
The six buttons
There are five on the top row and one on the bottom row, with a link button next to it.
| Button | What it does | Permission needed (default) |
|---|---|---|
| ⏮️ | Goes back to the song that played just before | The person who added that song, or a DJ |
| ⏸️ / ▶️ | Toggles between pause and play | Anyone |
| ⏹️ | Stops playback and clears the queue | DJ |
| ⏭️ | Moves on to the next song | The person who added that song, or a DJ |
| 🔊 | Opens a volume input box | DJ |
| 📜 | Shows the queue so only you can see it | No restriction |
- While playing, the second button is a gray ⏸️. While paused, it turns into a green ▶️. You can tell the current state by its color.
- Only ⏹️ is red. Pressing it wipes out the whole queue, so be careful.
- If you have server administrator permission, you can press all of them regardless of the permission table above.
- If you press a button you don't have permission for,
이 조작을 사용할 권한이 없어요("You don't have permission to use this action") appears so only you can see it. The card stays the same.
The link button at the very end takes you to the web dashboard.
NOTE
This button's label shows up as the English text dashboard_button instead of Korean. Pressing it takes you to the dashboard normally, so you don't need to worry about the label. You also get to the same place by typing the dashboard address into your browser. See Getting started with the web dashboard.
When buttons are gray (disabled)
There's always a specific reason a button can't be pressed.
| Situation | Buttons that turn gray |
|---|---|
| Nothing is playing (it was stopped, the queue ended, or the voice connection dropped) | ⏮️ ⏸️ ⏹️ ⏭️ 🔊 |
| No song has played before | Only ⏮️ |
| Nothing is playing and the queue is empty | All of them, including 📜 |
In other words, if five buttons are gray at once, nothing is playing right now. When you add a song, the card comes back to life automatically. Only the link button can always be pressed.
Buttons don't turn gray while paused. Paused still counts as "a song is playing."
When a button isn't gray but doesn't work
Sometimes the card is still there, but the bot has restarted or already left the channel. If you press a button then, you get ❌ 지금 재생 중인 곡이 없어요 ("Nothing is playing right now"). Start again with /재생 (play) and the card gets back in sync too.
If you press ⏭️ and get 대기열에 다음 곡이 없어요, there really is no next song. The same goes for ❌ 이전 곡이 없어요 ("There's no previous song") on ⏮️. The previous-song history keeps only up to 25 songs.
🔊 Volume input box
Press 🔊 and a small input box called 볼륨 설정 (volume settings) appears.
- The input field is named
볼륨 (0-100)(volume (0-100)), and when it opens, the current volume is already filled in. - You can enter up to three digits.
- If it isn't a whole number from 0 to 100, you get
❌ 0부터 100 사이의 값을 입력해주세요("Please enter a value from 0 to 100") and the volume doesn't change. - When it works, you get a confirmation only you can see, like
🔊 볼륨을 60%로 설정했어요("Set the volume to 60%").
TIP
A newly added server starts at 8% volume. Most "I can't hear anything" cases are this, so turn it up once at the start. The value you set is saved for the server and stays the same next time.
You can do the same thing with a command. /볼륨 값:60 (/볼륨 (volume) with 값 (value) 60) works exactly like this input box. See /볼륨 · /탐색 (volume, seek).
📜 Queue button
Press it and the queue appears as a message only you can see. Nothing is left in the channel, so you can press it anytime. It shows exactly the same thing as the /대기열 (queue) command. Limits such as showing only the first 10 songs are explained in Queue, repeat and shuffle.
There's only one card per server
Each server keeps only one controller. Even if you use commands in several channels, you won't get several cards.
- If an old controller is left in the same channel, the bot finds it and deletes it. That's why old cards don't pile up when you scroll up.
- When the channel the card belongs in changes, the bot creates a card in the new channel and deletes the one in the original channel. That's why the card seems to "follow you around."
- By default, the card appears in the text channel where the bot was first called. If a server admin has pinned it to a specific channel, it always appears there (Pinning and combining the controller message channel).
NOTE
It's fine to delete the card yourself. The bot makes a new one when the next song starts. Right after you delete it, though, there's briefly no card to control, so use slash commands in the meantime.
When it becomes an empty card
In the situations below, the card turns into an empty card with no song information (❌ 지금 재생 중인 곡이 없어요 + 대기열에 다음 곡이 없어요).
- When someone presses ⏹️ or uses
/정지(stop) - When the last song in the queue ends
- When the bot leaves the voice channel
- When the voice connection drops and playback can't continue
The bot doesn't leave right away just because the card is empty. The conditions for leaving are covered in When the bot stops or leaves on its own.
On a server with several bots
On a Premium server, a different bot can be assigned to each voice channel. In that case, a card's buttons control playback for the bot that posted that card. Press the card for the channel you're in to get the result you expect. If you press another channel's card, you'll change that channel's playback, so be careful. For details, see Listening in several channels at once (Premium).
