Searching and choosing a source: supported links

The three commands /재생 (play), /검색 (search) and /다음재생 (play next) all take a song through a single 검색어 (search term) field. The bot behaves completely differently depending on whether you type a song title or paste an address there. This page sums up that difference, the addresses you can use and the source options.

The bot only checks whether your input starts with http:// or https://.

  • If it doesn't start with http, it's all a search term. Spaces, Korean text and special characters are all used in the search as they are.
  • If it starts with http, it's treated as a link, and the bot first checks whether the site is allowed. If it doesn't pass, the bot doesn't fall back to a search. It just refuses.

❌ 거절: YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud 공식 링크만 사용할 수 있어요.

(It means "Refused: only official YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud links can be used.")

TIP

Even if a song title contains text that looks like an address, it's treated as a search term as long as it doesn't start with http. On the other hand, an address that went through a URL shortener is refused even if it leads to YouTube. Paste the original address as is.

Addresses you can paste

Only the addresses below get through. Every other site is blocked.

ServiceAddresses you can use
YouTubeyoutube.com, www.youtube.com, m.youtube.com, music.youtube.com, youtu.be
Spotifyopen.spotify.com, spotify.link
SoundCloudsoundcloud.com, www.soundcloud.com, m.soundcloud.com, on.soundcloud.com, snd.sc

Whatever follows the address doesn't matter. Playlist addresses and addresses with a timestamp can both go in as they are.

The four sources

You can leave the 소스 (source) option empty. If you choose one, it's one of these four.

SourceWhat it actually does
YouTubeFinds the song on YouTube and plays it
YouTube MusicGives the same result as choosing YouTube
SoundCloudFinds the song on SoundCloud and plays it
SpotifyFinds only the song information on Spotify, and actually plays it from YouTube

If you leave the source empty, anything that isn't a link goes to a YouTube search. In most cases you don't need to choose one.

YouTube Music gives the same result

The options list YouTube and YouTube Music separately, but in practice you can't tell their results apart. It isn't an option that "makes it use the YouTube Music recording."

Spotify is a search source, not a playback source

This is the part people misunderstand most often.

If you choose 소스: Spotify, the bot takes only the title, artist, length and album art from Spotify. Then it uses that information to find the same song again on YouTube and plays it. It isn't streaming Spotify audio. Only the source name shown on the card stays as spotify.

WARNING

So you may get a different song from the one you added. While finding the same song again on YouTube, it may pick up a live version, a cover or a remix. If the title on the card is different, this is what happened. If you want the exact recording, use /검색 to look at the candidates and pick, or paste a YouTube link directly.

Pasting a Spotify link and choosing 소스: Spotify work differently. Neither one plays the Spotify audio as is, and the two methods may fetch different recordings. If you don't like the result, it's more reliable to use /검색 and pick from the candidates yourself.

If a YouTube address includes playlist information (list=), the bot fetches the whole list.

  • It fetches up to 100 songs at once.
  • Even songs on the list are silently left out if they exceed the length limit (10 minutes by default). So "I added a 100-song list but only 87 went in" can be normal.
  • When it succeeds, it tells you how many went in, like ✅ (목록 이름)에서 87곡을 대기열에 추가했어요 ("Added 87 songs from (playlist name) to the queue").
  • If every song on the list hits the length limit, no songs go in and you get ❌ 이 곡은 너무 길어요 ("This song is too long").

NOTE

Private playlists can't be fetched. They must be public or unlisted. If you're handling much bigger lists or want to save a list, use the playlist feature in the web dashboard. See Playlists and importing YouTube playlists.

Picking yourself with /검색

/재생 just adds the first search result. If that's sometimes not what you want, use /검색.

  1. Run /검색 검색어: (song title). You can choose a 소스 too if you like.
  2. Up to 10 results appear in a select menu. Each line shows the title, artist and length.
  3. When you pick one, it goes into the queue and the menu disappears.

There are a few limits here.

LimitDetails
60 secondsThe menu expires 60 seconds after it appears
You onlyOnly the person who ran /검색 can pick
10 songsNo matter how many results there are, it shows only the first 10
Only onceOnce you pick one, that menu is done. To add more, you have to search again

If you press it after it expires, you get ⚠️ 검색 선택 시간이 만료되었어요. 다시 검색해주세요 ("The time to choose a search result has expired. Please search again"). The same goes for a menu left on screen after the bot restarted. Just search again.

NOTE

If you press a search menu someone else ran, you get 🚫 음악 명령어는 검색을 실행한 유저에서만 사용할 수 있어요 ("This music command can only be used by the user who ran the search"). It means only the person who ran the search can pick. If you want to pick, run /검색 yourself.

When you get no results

If you get ❌ (검색어)에 맞는 곡을 찾지 못했어요 ("Couldn't find a song matching (search term)"), the search worked fine but found nothing.

  • Try again with the artist's name added. 아이유 밤편지 (IU's "Through the Night") finds it more easily than 밤편지 alone.
  • Try searching without special characters or emoji.
  • If you specified a source, clear it and try again. The song may just not be on that source.

When a second bot is assigned on a Premium server

On a Premium server, a second bot (a sub-bot) may be assigned to your voice channel.

WARNING

In a channel with a sub-bot, /검색 is not supported right now Not supported. Even if you choose a source, you won't get the results you want, so in this channel use /재생 or paste a YouTube link directly. How to tell whether a sub-bot is assigned to your channel is in Listening in several channels at once (Premium).
