Volume policy and volume sync

Yeonhee's volume is saved per server. No matter who changes it or where, the same server starts at that value the next time something plays. But a newly invited server starts at 8% volume, so almost everyone using it for the first time feels "it's way too quiet."

This page explains where to change the volume, what the maximum is, and how volume is kept when sub-bots are used.

New servers start at 8%

8% is applied only once, when the bot is first invited. A server where the volume has been changed once keeps that value, and it doesn't go back to 8% when the bot restarts.

TIP

If you get "I can't hear it / it's too quiet" questions right after inviting the bot, check the volume first. One move of the slider in the dashboard's bottom player, or one /볼륨 값:50 (/볼륨 (volume) with 값 (value) 50), takes care of it. Once you turn it up, you don't need to do it again for that server.

There are three ways to change the volume.

RouteWherePermission needed
/볼륨 값:<0-100>Slash command볼륨 조절 (volume control) (default: DJ or higher)
Controller volume buttonController message → input box볼륨 조절
Volume slider in the bottom playerWeb dashboard볼륨 조절

If you use /볼륨 without a value, it only tells you the current volume and changes nothing. How to use the command itself is in /볼륨 · /탐색 (volume, seek), and the permission level is adjusted in The DJ role and per-action permissions.

NOTE

Volume isn't on the dashboard's settings screen. The settings screen has only three sections: controller, DJ permission and default permissions. Volume is a value you change in the bottom player during playback, and that value is saved as the server setting as is.

The maximum is 100

Values outside the 0 to 100 range aren't saved. The notice differs a little depending on where you enter it.

InputWhen it's out of range
/볼륨 optionDiscord only accepts 0 to 100 in the first place
Controller volume input boxStops after showing 0부터 100 사이의 값을 입력해주세요 ("Please enter a value from 0 to 100")
Dashboard volume controlvolume must be between 0 and 100 error

TIP

If it's still quiet at 100, also check the user volume on the Discord side. Right-click the bot in the voice channel and you get a User Volume slider that applies only to you. It's a separate value from the bot's volume.

Volume sync: it only matters on servers with sub-bots

Volume sync is on by default. It can only be turned on or off with the operations team's /admin command. Server admins can't change it from the dashboard. For the steps, see Turning on Premium (sub-bots).

On servers that only use the main bot, this setting has no effect. It only makes a difference on Premium servers where sub-bots are assigned.

  • Sync ON: All bots use one shared server volume.
  • Sync OFF: Each bot remembers its own volume. If nothing is saved for that bot, it starts at the shared volume.

Which value is kept for the next playback after you change the volume

SyncBot you changed it onNext time something plays
ONMain botThe changed value is kept
ONSub-botIt goes back to the shared server volume
OFFMain botThe changed value is kept
OFFSub-botThe changed value is kept for that bot only

WARNING

With volume sync on, a volume change made in a sub-bot's channel applies only for that moment. Not supported The sound changes right away, but it isn't saved, so it goes back to the shared server volume the next time something plays. If you get "the volume keeps resetting" questions only from channels a sub-bot has joined, this is the cause. If you need to keep a different volume for each channel, ask the operations team for /admin ... setting:볼륨 동기화 action:비활성화 (volume sync, disable).

Here, "main bot / sub-bot" means the bot that's actually holding that channel, not the person who used the command. Whether by slash command or from the dashboard, if you control a channel where a sub-bot is playing, it's handled on the sub-bot's terms.

What to check, in order, when the volume seems off

  1. It's quiet → Check the server volume. Run /볼륨 without a value to see the current value. Right after inviting the bot, it's 8%.
  2. You changed it, but it's quiet again next time → Check whether a sub-bot is holding that channel. The server list in the sidebar shows which voice channel each bot is in. If it's a sub-bot, it's because of the sync rule above.
  3. Each bot sounds different → Volume sync is off, so each bot remembers its own value. This is normal.
  4. You can't go past 100 → The maximum is 100. To hear it louder, raise the user volume on the Discord side.
