Voice channel commands — /join · /leave · /skip

There are three commands for calling a bot into a voice channel and sending it out. All three are available from User up at first.

  • When you use /join, one free bot out of Yeonhong, Yeonha and the others comes in.
  • /leave and /skip act on the bot in the voice channel you're in.
  • To remove or skip a bot in another voice channel, you need to be Manager or above.

All three commands work only in servers, and they don't run while the bot is under maintenance. Below you'll find what reply each command gives, and whether that reply is visible only to you or stays in the channel.

Replies only you can see appear in your Discord language, and public replies that stay in the channel appear in that channel's language (the main language if no language is set for each channel). → Which language the bot replies in

/join — call a free bot

Calls a free bot into the voice channel you're in right now. You need to be in a voice channel first. Yeonhong decides which bot comes in. The rules are in Several bots, one team.

Changing the text channel the bot reads

Stay in the same voice channel as the bot, and run /join in the other text channel you want read. Only you see this window.

In use via #General · #chat now
Closes in 30 seconds
[Read this channel] [Add a bot here] [Cancel]
  • Click [Read this channel] and the bot reads this text channel. Yeonha 1 moved somewhere else. is left in the original text channel.
  • Click [Add a bot here] and a free bot joins the same voice channel to read this text channel. The original bot keeps reading its chat. → One more bot in the same voice channel
  • Click [Cancel] and you'll see Didn't move it. If you don't choose within 30 seconds, the window closes.

If you run /join in the voice channel's own chat, 'Move it here?' with [Move] [Cancel] appears. Click [Move] and the bot reads the voice channel's chat.

What else happens

  1. The text channel to read is set. The bot reads the text channel where you ran /join. Messages written in other channels are skipped without any message.
  2. Channel limits are lifted for a while. Even if a server admin has set 'Channels to read' or 'Voice channels to join' in the dashboard, the bot doesn't follow those limits while it's been called with /join.
  3. The bot that came in posts some messages. Which bot is covering what (Yeonha 1 is on General 2 · reading #chat), and a notice that this voice is made with AI are posted together. When Yeonhong joins, any current announcements are attached too. These messages and announcements appear in that text channel's language. If there's no announcement written in that language, no announcement is attached.

WARNING

Point 2, "channel limits are lifted for a while," lasts only while the bot stays in that voice channel. When you run /leave or the bot restarts, the limits apply again. This is what's going on when it looks like "the bot read this channel yesterday but not today." Run /join again and it's back. If you want a channel to always be read, ask a server admin to add it to 'Channels to read' in the Reading tab of the dashboard.

/skip — skip the sentence being read

Stops the sentence the bot in your voice channel is reading now, and moves on to the next one. If you put a number in the count field, it skips that many at once, including the sentence being read now. Leave it empty to skip 1.

TIP

If someone wrote ten lines in a row, don't use /skip ten times. Put 10 in count. If you want to clear all waiting sentences, you can also send the bot out with /leave and run /join again.

/leave — remove the bot from the voice channel

Removes the bot from your voice channel. If several of our bots are in that voice channel, all of them leave.

If you use /leave while a bot is still joining, it waits a moment for the bot to finish joining and then removes it. The bot doesn't stay in the voice channel.

When you remove the bot, all of this is cleared at once.

  • All sentences waiting to be read are cleared.
  • Any sound being read stops right away.
  • The bot forgets the text channel it was reading, and it becomes a free bot again.
  • Channel limits lifted by /join apply again.

If auto-join is on

Auto-join stays on after /leave. If someone writes in the voice channel you just cleared, a bot comes back in.

If a bot comes back through auto-join within 15 seconds of /leave, it posts the notice You can turn off auto-join in the server settings. with an [Open auto-join settings] button in that chat. The button opens the 'Auto-join' row on the Join & alerts tab of the dashboard. The notice disappears on its own after a while. The same goes for removing a bot from /bots or the dashboard.

Which bot does it act on?

/leave and /skip pick the target bot in this order.

  1. The bot in the voice channel you're in — if there are several, /leave removes all of them and /skip acts on the bot reading this text channel
  2. If you're not in a voice channel, the bot reading this text channel (if there's only one)
  3. If neither applies, the bot that's in this server (if there's only one)

If it's not case 1, the bot is in another voice channel, so only Manager or above can do it. If you're Manager or above and there's more than one target, a 'Choose a bot to disconnect' (or 'Choose a bot to skip') menu appears. The menu shows the voice channel and text channel each bot covers, and you need to choose within 30 seconds.

Clicking [Remove] next to a bot in /bots does the same thing. See Several bots, one team for details.

When the bot leaves on its own

Sometimes the bot leaves even if you don't run /leave.

  • When nobody is left in the voice channel — if the bot is left alone, it clears the waiting sentences and leaves. It doesn't read the leave alert for the last person who left.
  • When there's nothing to read on a server with 'Leave when quiet' on — once the set time has passed, it posts There was nothing to read for 10 minutes, so I'm leaving. Use /join to call me again. and leaves. This setting is in the Join & alerts tab of the dashboard.
  • When two of our bots end up in one voice channel — the one that came later posts Yeonhong already covers this voice channel, so Yeonha 1 is leaving. and leaves.
  • When maintenance starts — the voice connection drops right away. When maintenance is over, call the bot again with /join.

When a voice server has a problem and the bot moves to another voice server, it doesn't leave. Only a 'Moved to another voice server' message is posted in the text channel it was reading, and the connection stays as it is.
